Waiting outside the barber shop on a Saturday afternoon for A’s turn. It’s awkward. Extremely awkward. I’m the lone woman standing there. The door’s all glass. I can see inside and the guys inside can see me. This is the neighborhood barber shop, right next door to the ladies parlor I go to. The brat refuses to go to the “girl’s haircut shop”. We’re first in line. But the wait stretches to over 30 min. Because all 10 guys inside are busy being pampered. Facial, massage, and what not! On the other hand, the women next door have come in for the basics – threading, waxing, haircut. Stark contrast. I pinch myself. Is this just a regular Saturday afternoon? Are the cosmetic cos targeting the wrong demographic?
